FACStar Plus "upgrade"

Hi All.

I have a situation:
Our institute has a FACSTar Plus which we recently upgraded from HP to
Mac. We purchased the Power PC, instead of the Quadra, which is what was
standard. The problem: BD, in their infinite wisdom, sold us the Power
PC before they even *invented* the board that allows the computer and
cytometer to talk. No problem, we were told it would be soon coming, and
we patiently waited...5 months. Again, really not a problem, as we
weren't using it much in that time. The plot thickens: When we finally
did recieve the board, and attemped to sort, we discovcered that we lost
the ability to sort on 2 parameters: FL3 and FL4. When we called them on
this, we were told that with the upgrade, we would not be able to sort
on these two parameters, that they didn't really have an excuse why,
that they just "did what they could with the people they had." To BD's
defense, they did send us a replacement board, and we do have the
parameters back on line, but to use them there are switches that need to
be flipped, fl3 is called fl4, which is called fl5. Confused? We are
too. And a little upset... this is supposed to be an upgrade. Ok, enough
of slamming BD. My question...Has anyone else had this kind of problem?
Shouold we have just gone with the Quadra (even though it is slower than
cold molasses in winter)? If anyone has any comments, especially if you
have had any problems like these, please respond directly to me. I would
hate to think I was propogating negative advertisement for BD. Thanks.
Bill.
