analysis of natural populations of marine picoplankton by flow cytometry
using the nucleic acid stain SYBR Green I. Appl Environ Microbiol 63:186-193

In fact we calibrate the flow rate of the FACScan and then record the time
of each analysis. We have been using this method for several years and it
is very very accurate (a few %) provided the flow rate calibration is done
often enough (2-3 times per day).
