First Global Friend of FHSSA Holds Successful Medical Supply Drive
The Omicron Tau Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), Honor Society of Nursing is a professional organization of nurses whose goal is to be “intentionally global” and mission is to support the learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses committed to make a difference in health worldwide.
In 2008, the chapter’s board of directors made the decision to become the first “Global Friend of FHSSA”. The chapter’s members will continue to partner and collaborate with FHSSA to endorse the global effort to bring comfort and quality end-of-life care to those living with HIV/AIDS and other life threatening illnesses in Sub-Saharan Africa.
During October 2008, the Omicron Tau Chapter, STTI Honor Society of Nursing and the nursing students at Minot State University, Minot, North Dakota, held a successful community wide medical supply drive to collect medical supplies for hospices affiliated with FHSSA. Over 500 pounds of much needed medical supplies were collected and will be shipped with the assistance of Direct Relief International to Seke Rural Hospice and Island Hospice in Zimbabwe.
