Dear all

We are about to publish a paper; "Al-Rubeai, M et al. A rapid method
for evaluation of cell number and viability by flow cytometry. Cytotechnology (in
press)".

The method is based on the ratio of cells to a known number of
particles method but includes PI as a vital stain.
It has been compared with traditional trypan blue stained
haemocytometer counting and validated for use in animal cell biotechnology where
cultures may be highly heterogeneous, containing not only "normal
cells" but substantial numbers of apoptotic and necrotic cells and a
large amount of debris.
The method has advantages in speed, objectivity and low interobserver
variation and offers the potential for near online automation in
process biotechnology.

Please feel free to contact me for further information.
