FACScan cleaning and maintenance

Dear Flow-Folk,

I have some questions concerning cleaning and maintaining a BD FACScan.
Unfortunately, changing the technicians maintaining and sometimes repairing
the FACScan obviously implies changes in cleaning and maintenance
recommendations and regulations. Initially, following procedure for
cleaning the hydraulic system and measurement capillary on a regular basis
was recommended:

A falcon tube with 0.1% solution of sodium hypochlorite was prepared and
then run over 10-15 minutes with flow control system set to "high flow" and
function switch set to "measurement". Subsequently a tube filled with
destilled water was run over 10-15 minutes (same settings as sodium
hypochlorite solution). This recommendation was exactly the one I found in
the German version of FACScan user's manual by BD.
Later, our lab was recommended to replace the sodium hypochlorite solution
with 0,1% 7 flow or 7X solution and to follow the time limits and settings
as mentioned before for sodium hypochlorite based cleaning.
Last year, after several incidents of hydraulic system block by cell
detritus, recommendation for cleaning was again changed to 0.1% sodium
hypochlorite solution (no change on instrument settings).
Now, as happened yesterday, cleaning recommendation was changed again to
7-flow or 7-X in a 0.1% solution.

If any of you have some idea, information, or experiences indicating the
right and correct (and even the best functioning) method of cleaning the
FACScan, please drop a note. Any incoming suggestions or comments are
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Andreas
