The more I do, the more I realize I don't know. We have a group of
investigators who are looking at the effects of various types and
concentrations of asbestos fibers on cells derived from lung. They
presently stain there cells with propidium iodide to assess the cell cycle
and monitor apoptosis over time relative to their experimental conditions.
They would now also like to look at cell death as an assessment of
cytotoxicity. Molecular Probes is marketing a new probe called Sytox green
that is supposed to stain "dead cells". Is this dye compatible with PI?
Better yet does anyone have a protocol or reference for simultaneously
measuring apoptosis and cell death in cultured cells? Thank you in advance
for your assistance.
