APPLICATION OF CONFOCAL MICROSCOPY IN PETROLOGY AND BIOMEDICINE
Oviedo, Spain 5-6 th April 1995 The aim of this course was to train students and researchers in the technical study and classification of microfissures in geological materials. It is hoped by the organisers that the participants will be able to use knowledge gained from the course to choose the most appropriate method for their own individual projects. The course, organised by "Grupo de Petrofísica"of the University of Oviedo and part funded by TATIANA UEPT, centred on microscopy techniques, specimen preparation and mapping and quantification of fissures, minerals and grain interlocking. The course operated with a global characteristic highlighting the latest advances of technology in this field.

STEREO SPRING/15th ISS TATIANA EUROPEAN STEREOLGY
Curia (P) 22-28 April 1995 Organised by the International Society of Stereology (ISS) and locally by the Department of Anatomy, Porto Medical School and partly financed by TATIANA AUEF this conference took place in Porto. The week long theoretical and practical course included newer methods of measuring volume, surfaces, areas, systematic sampling techniques and the nucleate etc. with particular emphasis being given to new sampling principles and tools. Six instructors delivered a total of 37 hours tuition to the 32 participants.
